We were super excited to have our first group of members sign up to the Body Beyond Birth home workout program this week!
A year ago, we could never have imagined quite how a Pilates based home workout program would be adopted by mothers. When Becky and I decided to follow our passion to help other moms in their quest for a healthier, fitter version of themselves, I don’t think we really had any idea what that would mean.
In the beginning, we stared at a blank piece of paper looking at each other.
“Where do we start with this whole women’s home workout program online idea?”
It seemed like an impossible task. We threw around some ideas, but then we decided to do something really radical. We talked to other moms to find out what they really wanted in a health and fitness program. From there, our baby, Body Beyond Birth, really came to life. I can honestly say it has been one of the best experiences of my life!
You see, my background is human resources (HR). The whole reason I love HR is that I love helping people. I love seeing them develop and become successful in their chosen fields. I also love that “success” means so many different things to different people.
Another of my passions is health and fitness.
I’ve always loved anything to do with creating a better version of myself, which is how I approach looking after my own health and well being.
So, in creating Body Beyond Birth, I feel like I’m the luckiest person in the world.
I get to work on a program in the hope of helping others realize their own health and fitness goals.
The added bonus is that I get to do all this with one of the best and most inspiring women in the world… Becky!
It’s so great to have someone by your side that totally supports you, but who always challenges me to “do better”. She really is one of my best friends and my sister for life!
To come together to create an online home workout program and end up creating something that is about health, exercise, community and connecting with other women is truly amazing.
Super moms and those little guilty voices
So that’s all great, and life’s perfect, right?
Well, I certainly am a very lucky woman, but like most things in life, there is always a trade-off.
Becky and I, like most moms, juggle our work on Body Beyond Birth and other areas with hectic family lives. And like most moms, there is the constant feeling of guilt.
Are we spending enough time with our kids? What’s for dinner? Have we put the washing out? Are we giving enough quality time to our husbands and nurturing those relationships?
The questions go on and on and on. I’m sure there’s a thousand more like this going through our minds at any one time!
While we can get down on ourselves for what we can’t manage to do on a daily basis, what about reminding ourselves of what we do? We’re loving moms first and foremost who would do anything for our children. We cook, we clean, we love our husbands, we comfort our children when they’re sick or hurt, we read to them at night, we sing, we play games, we do laundry, we do the shopping, we are the family taxi.
The list is as long for what we do as the doubts and questions we have. There’s a lot we really do do. We’re the family’s EVERYTHING!
And, on top of this, when we’re working, we are actually doing something else for our families – we are being exceptional role models. We are helping our children believe that anything really is possible. We have shown them that if you truly have a passion for something and you believe in yourself, you can fit anything into your day and you can turn dreams into reality.
So, next time you’re beating yourself up for what you haven’t got time for or for what you haven’t done, or because you feel like you’re letting your family down in some way, just stop for a minute.
Firstly, toss out those thoughts and remember to be truly present for all those special moments you share with your family. No matter how long or short those moments are. Remind yourself of what you do give to your family and remind yourself of the amazing role model and person you are.
Be proud. Be real. Be you. You are a super mom – you are a super everything!
And like any good superhero, you are entitled to work on yourself too. You’re allowed to follow your dreams or nurture your ideas. You can pursue the career you want and/or find your life’s purpose in so many ways. When you choose yourself and you back yourself, you create happiness.
And yes, that includes home workout programs, stress reduction and looking after your health.
Every little step you take helps. Whether it’s to beat down the negative chatter, carve out time to work on your dreams, spend time with your family or yes, even give yourself 20 minutes to do a home workout program.
So in a lot of ways, being a super mom with Becky by my side is great. But it’s even greater that a bunch of new super moms have joined our journey.
I think that deserves a round of applause, don’t you?
